The second newest family member is Chairman Mau - but you may call him Mau.

He is an Ebony Oriental Shorthair born November 14, 2001  (Picture a solid black Siamese with lovely green eyes and you'll know what he looks like.)  In fact, many of the OS breeders refer to their cats as "Siamese in Designer Genes", since the breed comes in such a huge array of lovely colours, and has the conformation and temperament of the Siamese.

Mau is a real "velcro kitty" - he is so affectionate and loving - always wanting to be cuddled.  If you don't pick him up when he asks he'll just leap onto your shoulder so he can purr in your ear.  I've learned  to get good at doing things with a cat wrapped around my neck!

Of course he has a few nicknames too.  We all agree that as a baby he somewhat resembled a fruit bat with his little pointy chin and huge ears, so we do refer to him as Eric (If you are a Monty Python fan you will understand the reference...)

Baby Mau - "Eric, the fruit bat"...

He does get called other (unmentionable) names from time to time too - especially when he dances across my keyboard as he leaps off my lap to "capture" the cursor when it moves on the screen!

What's going on? Do you need my help?

My daughter Melanie taught him to play the "fetching" game.  If you throw the little fur mouse for him he will run and get it, bring it back and drop it at your feet. Then he looks up and asks you to throw it again.  He'll play this game until your arm is ready to fall off!

I drove down to Kresgeville PA 2002 Easter weekend to pick him up (Thank you Mary DiFalco for letting him "emigrate") and listened to him yowl all the way home (for almost 8 hours) - but it was worth it.

No shy or timid kitten this young man!  He acted like being put in a carrier, going for an 8 hour car ride, and moving into a strange place with a resident dog and cat was the most natural thing in the world for a kitten to do...

Known as "Mau the Fearless" because of his intrepid attitude he is also the cleverest of the cats, and no place that he really wants access to is beyond his ability!  His talent for opening doors is the stuff of legends.

He's grown up to be very handsome with his sleek body, emerald green eyes and gleaming black coat.  But he's more than good looking.

He has an unbelievably loving, charming, and  outgoing  personality.  He is everybody's friend, but he reserves his loudest purrs and signs of affection for me alone.

I think he loves me, and I know I love my beautiful boy!

My beautiful boy......

Lucky, lucky me to have found this marvelous feline fellow to join my furry family - he is an absolute delight...
